Nala Park

Muredha Nallah Park, Camp, Pune

Public spaces

6 Months

Overview

Pune Cantonment Board and Southern Command (Army) entrusted us with transforming 5 acres of land in the heart of the city. The site was categorized as wasteland, with a foul-smelling Nala flowing through it.

The objective was to convert the neglected land into a functional public space while organically treating the Nala and improving overall environmental quality.

Challenges

  • Organic treatment of the Nala without disturbing the ecosystem

  • Preserving existing large banyan trees

  • Delivering an impactful design within a limited budget

Solutions

1. Organic Nala Treatment

  • Implemented cascading water filtration systems.

  • Reduced foul odor through natural purification methods.

2. Preservation of Existing Banyan Trees

  • Designed meandering pathways around mature trees.

  • Protected root zones while enhancing user circulation.

3. Sustainable Landscape Development

  • Introduced a natural-looking waterbody to enhance ecological balance.

  • Used Shahabad stone and murrum for cost-effective execution.

  • Integrated extensive ground covers for low maintenance and durability.
